one christmas, before john and dave are together, dave is spending the holidays with the egberts and john decides it would be a funny prank to put mistletoes all over the house (he also secretly hopes it would give him an excuse to kiss dave of course) while dave is sleeping

so on christmas morning, john wakes dave up early to go open the gifts… dave just wants to keep sleeping but john looks so excited (and cute) so he followed him downstairs

they stop directly in front of the tree, and while they’re looking at the tree and the pile of gifts and whatever in life and joy and whatever else you feel during christmas john’s dad apparently comes downstairs because they’re startled to hear dad say to look up

both john and dave look up to see a mistletoe and john gets embarassed because he forgot it was there, he almost sent a dirty look at his father because he was just hit with how stupid the entire idea was and that it wasn’t even funny and he was mad at his father for even pointing out that there was a mistletoe there but he was already gone, and when he looked back at dave he just leaned forward and kissed him, catching him by surprise

john didn’t think dave would actually do it

he just kind of laughs it off at first, but for the rest of the day dave kept purposely leading them through whatever path would most likely end up with them standing underneath a mistletoe….
